Growing a community spirit - one flowerbed at a time.

Paradise Community Gardens was established, in the Spring of 2015, with the approval & support of Knightstone Housing Asociation, to create micro habitats in neglected areas, with wild and fragrant flowers, plants and shrubs to help bees, butterflies and other pollinators on the Paradise Housing Estate in Glastonbury, Somerset.

Creating Habitats for Pollinators
Our members

Any local resident or passing traveller wishing to support our initiative is very welcome to join the Community Gardens Scheme. It's free! Members currently range in age from 4 to 60! Or if you prefer you can become a Friend of Paradise and join our mailing list to be kept up to date with our activities and what we discover on our journeys through Paradise. That's free too!

An hour here or there or a more regular input is always welcome and for those who don't have time any offerings of cuttings, plants or seeds are equally appreciated.

Seeding and Weeding

Throughout the srping and summer look out for anyone with gardening equipment in the community garden areas and come and help if you would like to. In the autumn we will be gathering seeds to re-plant in the spring. Come and share a little bit of Paradise whenever you have a moment or two to spare.

Weeds for Bees

When planting for pollinators we looked for those varieties that are early and late flowering or that have a long flowering period - thus offering a prolonged food source. We discovered that Dandelion flowers are excellent, so will be encouraging people not to be too quick in pulling them up. They help our bees in early spring when flowers are scarce.
